MANILA, Philippines- Naghain si dating Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque ng counter-affidavit sa kasong cyberlibel at libel na isinampa ni dating Senator Antonio Trillanes IV.
Sinabi ni Roque nitong Linggo na noong Hunyo 18, hiniling niya sa Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office na ibasura ang libel charges ni Trillanes dahil sa lack of probable cause.
Nagsumite rin si Roque ng counter-charge laban kay Trillanes sa paglabag sa RA 3019 o ang “Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act” at RA 6713 o ang “Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees.”
Sinabi ni Roque na sinira umano ni Trillanes ang “public trust” sa kanyang 2012 backchannel negotiations sa Chinese officials.
“As a public figure, Trillanes should not have been onion-skinned in reacting to my criticisms of his conduct in his backchannel mission to China,” wika ni Roque.
“My livestream discusses matters of public interest such as sovereignty and sovereign rights that deserve utmost discussion and should be insulated from libel judgment,” dagdag niya.
Matatandaang noong Mayo 14, kinasuhan ni Trillanes si Roque at vlogger na si Byron Cristobal o Banat By, kasama ang iba pang indibidwal, sa mga pahayag ng mga ito laban sa kanya.
Sa kanyang reklamo, inihayag ni Trillanes na nag-post si Roque ng video sa Facebook kung saan inakusahan siyang ibinigay ang Scarborough Shoal sa China.
Samantala, ipinalabas naman ni Cristobal ang pahayag ni Roque sa kanyang video at inihayag ang kanyang pagsang-ayon sa mga pahayag.
“The Complainant allowed himself to be persuaded, induced, or influenced to violate the 1987 Constitution and the rules of the Senate. The negotiation was grossly disadvantageous to the government,” giit ni Roque.
“As a Senator, Trillanes failed to observe the standards of nationalism, patriotism, and commitment to democracy, in violation of RA 6713,” aniya pa.
Sa kasalukuyan ay wala pang pahayag si Trillanes ukol dito. RNT/SA
