MANILA, Philippines – Napag-alaman na isa sa anim na napatay na miyembro ng New People’s Army sa engkwentro sa Pilar, Bohol noong Setyembre 7 au isang ranking official ng organisasyon na responsable umano sa mass protest sangkot ang indigenous peoples sa Mindanao at Metro Manila.
Kinilala ito ni Lt. Gen. Benedict na si Kerlan Fanagel, mula sa Barangay Poblacion, Malapatan, Sarangani, na miyembro ng Regional Urban Committee ng NPA Southern Mindanao Regional Command.
Siya rin ay chairman ng Pasakaday Salugpongan Kalimudan (PASAKA)/ Confederation of Lumad Organization sa Southern Mindanao Region.
Si Fanagel ay dating tinukoy bilang si
Rogelio Jorillo mula Minglanilla, Cebu batay sa office ID na narekober mula sa kanya.
Nakumpirma lamang ang totoong katauhan nito nang i-beripika at tanungin ang iba pang dating rebelde.
“This is a clear manifestation of the deceptive tactics employed by the CPP (Communist Party of the Philippines) – NPA. They infiltrate different sectors in our community to include our Indigenous Peoples, organize them, and use them to go against the government,” saad sa pahayag ni Arevalo.
Maliban sa pagiging chairman ng PASAKA, si Fanagel din ay miyembro ng national IP organization na KATRIBU, KALUMARAN Mindanao at SANDUGO, alyansa ng Moro at IP organizations.
“The presence of Fanagel here in the Visayas validates our assessment that the CPP-NPA is exerting efforts to recover their lost mass bases in the region, which was cleared from NPA infestation by our community support program teams with the support of the local task force to end local communist armed conflict,” dagdag pa ni Arevalo.
