MANILA, Philippines – Inaprubahan ng Senate Committee on Finance ang panukalang badyet ng National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA) at National Security Agency sa susunod na taon.
Base sa tanggapan ni Senador Sonny Angara, chairman ng Senate committee on finance, na may panukalang P1.432 bilyon ang badyet ng NICA sa ilalim ng National Expenditure Program (NEP) sa 2024, na mas mataas sa 2023 General Appropriations Act (GAA) na umabot lamang sa P1.385-billion.
Aprubado rin ang hinihinging P629.278 milyon ng National Security Council (NSC) para sa 2024 kumpara sa P418.8-million sa kasalukuyan.
Kinumpirma ito ni Senador Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito na pawang “deemed” approve, pero sinisipat ng ilang mambabatas na dagdagan ang pondo ng ahensiya mula sa hinihinging confidential and intelligence (CIF) funds ng ibang ahensiya.
“We senators, are the ones pushing for their budget to be augmented because of the current situation (in the West Philippine Sea),” ayon kay Ejercito sa Kapihan sa Senado forum.
“Precisely because we will shift to external defense. We really need to augment our intelligence capabilities because of the situation,” dagdag niya.
Sinabi ni Ejercito na may ilang senador ang gustong dagdagan ang badyet ng ahensiya kahit mayroon na itong ilang assets para sa depensa.
Inihayag naman ni Senate President Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri na mayroon ilang senador na gustong dagdagan ang badyet ng NICA at NSA “because, well these are interesting times.”
“And I think we need to give budgets to the NICA and the NSA in terms of (fighting against) cybersecurity. The Philippines is very vulnerable to cyberhacks and cyber attacks. We have no cybersecurity backbone,” giit ni Zubiri.
Nitong Miyerkules, pinulong ng Senado ang select oversight committee on the confidential and intelligence funds.
