MANILA, Philippines – Nanawagan ang Pilipinas ng malakas na multilateral system na naka-angkla sa batas, kasabay ng pagtitipon-tipon ng top diplomats ng iba’t ibang bansa sa Brussels, Belgium.
Tinalakay dito ang kasalukuyang banta sa mundo mula sa maritime security hanggang sa cyberattacks.
Ayon kay Philippine Foreign Secretary Theresa Lazaro, ang “faithful implementation” ng international law ay “crucial to reducing conflicts,” lalo na sa maritime domain, na pangunahing isyu ng Manila dahil sa agresibong aksyon ng China sa mga teritoryo nito sa West Philippine Sea.
“The UN Convention on the Law of the Sea remains the legal framework within which all activities in the oceans and seas must be carried out,” ani Lazaro sa meeting kung saan co-host siya kasama ni EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy at Vice President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas.
“UNCLOS, as reaffirmed through legally-binding rulings, such as the 2016 Arbitral Award in the South China Sea, should be observed,” sinabi pa ni Lazaro patungkol sa makasaysayang ruling na napanalunan ng Pilipinas laban sa China. RNT/JGC
