MANILA, Philippines – Umakyat na sa walo ang bilang ng mga nasawi sa landslide sa Binaliw landfill sa Cebu City, ayon kay Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival nitong Lunes, Enero 12.
Ani Archival, nasa 28 indibidwal ang patuloy pa ring pinaghahanap.
Samantala, mayroong 18 katao ang nasa ospital kasunod ng insidente.
“The 72 hours lapsed already but we’re hoping we still have people who are alive so that’s why we continue to be on this rescue operation,” sinabi ng alkalde sa press briefing.
“We will be deciding this afternoon if we continue the rescue mode or retrieval mode this afternoon,” dagdag pa ni Archival.
Ang landslide ay naganap sa waste management facility ng Prime Waste Solutions Cebu sa Barangay Binaliw, Huwebes noong nakaraang linggo.
Samantala, sinabi ni Archival na nababahala ang mga pamilya sa mabagal na rescue operation, ngunit ipinaliwanag niya na ang pagmamadali ay mas magdudulot pa ng lubhang panganib sa mga na-trap na indibiwal at mga rescuer.
“[T]he building is actually metal building. All the parts are interconnected to each other. Now if we want to bring the structure up, certainly they will be in the middle… so that’s why, according to the command center, we go very slow and very careful.”
“We cannot just simply cut the pieces. Because number one, there is actually gas spewing. If we have the big spark, then it will catch fire. And that will be very disastrous to the people who are trapped and, at the same time, to our rescuers,” dagdag pa niya. RNT/JGC
