MANILA, Philippines – Tutol ang 4 na mambabatas mula sa Davao City sa pagpapalawig ng suspension laban kay Cavite Rep Kiko Barzaga sa katwirang ang ginagawa ng Kamara ay pagtanggi sa constitutional rights ng mga bumoto sa mambabatas.
Sa isang sulat na ipinadala kay House Speaker Faustino Dy sinabi nina Reps. Paolo Duterte (first district), Omar Vincent Duterte (second district), Isidro Ungab (third district) at Harold Duterte PPP party-list na hindi dapat panghimasukan ng House Committee on Ethics ang mandato ng mambabatas.
“A handful of members of the House Committee on Ethics should not override the mandate given to Barzaga by his constituents. His mandate comes from the people” giit ng mga mambabatas.
Iginiit pa ng mga mambabatas na ginagarantiya ng konstitusyon ang constitutional protections sa free expression, anila, ang political speech, ito man ay kritikal ay hindi dapat gawing basehan para patawan ng parusa ang isang inidbidwal.
Ang nagawa na defamation ni Barzaga ay dapat resolbahin sa korte at hindi ng Ethics Committee na umaaktong hukom sa mga katanggap tanggap lang na political opinion.
