MANILA, Philippines – Posible pa ring magharap ng mga “surprise witness” ang magkabilang panig sa impeachment trial ni Vice President Sara Duterte kahit nakapagsumite na sila ng listahan ng mga testigo.
Ayon kay Senate Secretary Renato Bantug, na nagsisilbing clerk of court ng impeachment trial, pinapayagan ng mga patakaran ang pagdaragdag ng mga testigong hindi pa available noong pre-trial.
“Both parties have the right to make reservations as to witnesses that may not be available yet during pre-trial. And they would have to inform the parties of the calling of such witnesses at least three days before the scheduled appearance,” ani Bantug.
“So that’s allowed in the rules of court. That’s also allowed here in the impeachment court,” dagdag niya.
Noong Hunyo 18, natapos na ang pagmamarka ng mga dokumentaryong ebidensya para sa Articles III at IV ng impeachment complaint. Ang Article III ay tungkol sa alegasyon ng panunuhol sa mga opisyal ng Department of Education upang malusutan ang procurement laws, habang ang Article IV ay kaugnay ng umano’y pagbabanta kay Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, at dating Speaker Martin Romualdez.
Inaasahang matatapos ngayong araw ang pagmamarka ng ebidensya para sa Articles I at II. Ang Article I ay tumutukoy sa umano’y maling paggamit ng confidential funds, habang ang Article II ay tungkol sa umano’y hindi maipaliwanag na yaman ni Duterte.
“Hopefully, we get to finish it within the day so that we can start working on the pre-trial order,” sabi ni Bantug.
Matapos ang pre-trial conference, rerepasuhin ng impeachment court secretariat ang mga transcript at ebidensya bago buuin ang pre-trial order, na target isumite sa Hunyo 25.
