MANILA, Philippines – Haharapin ni dating House Speaker at Leyte Rep Martin Romualdez ang mga akusasyon laban sa kanya ayon sa proseso ng batas, ayon sa kanyang legal counsel na si Atty. Ade Fajardo.
“We respect the courts and the legal process. Representative Ferdinand Martin Romualdez will face the allegations against him in accordance with law,” pahayag ni Fajardo sa ipinalabas na statement.
Kinilala ni Fajardo ang interes ng publiko sa kaso ngunit iginiit nito na ang ebidensyang iniharap sa korte ang dapat magtakda kung may kriminal na pananagutan si Romualdez.
“We recognize the public interest surrounding this case. But ultimately, criminal liability must be determined by the evidence presented in court, under the rules and safeguards of our justice system,” paliwanag nito.
Ayon kay Fajardo, hindi humihingi si Romualdez ng espesyal na trato bagkus ay pantay na due process at patas na hearing lamang ang hiling nito katulad ng nararapat sa bawat Pilipino.
“Representative Romualdez asks for no special treatment. He asks only for the same due process and fair hearing guaranteed to every Filipino,” dagdag ni Fajardo.
