MANILA, Philippines- Pinalitan ang pangalan ng dalawang kalsada sa Quezon City — Agham Road at BIR Road — sa Senator Miriam P. Defensor-Santiago Avenue.
Ito ay matapos mag-lapse into law ng Republic Act No. 11963 (Act Renaming the Agham Road and the BIR Road, Stretching from North Avenue, Traversing Through Quezon Avenue, Up to East Avenue, All Located in Quezon City, As Senator Miriam P. Defensor-Santiago Avenue) nitong Huwebes, ayon sa Presidential Communications Office (PCO).
Kilala ang daan bilang Agham Road mula North Avenue hanggang Quezon Avenue, at BIR Road mula Quezon Avenue hanggang East Avenue.
“The Department of Public Works and Highways shall issue the necessary rules, orders and circulars to implement the provisions of this Act within 60 days from its effectivity,” saad sa RA 11963.
Ipinasa ang RA 11963 ng House of Representatives noong March 21, 2023, at ng Senado noong August 14, 2023.
Epektibo ang bagong batas 15 araw matapos itong mailathala sa Official Gazette o anumang pahayagan, base sa PCO.
Sinabi ni Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr., sponsor ng panukala sa Senado, matapos ang ikatlong pagbasa sa panukala na si Santiago “has truly left a legacy that to this day serves as our guiding light in our quest towards providing our countrymen with the kind of service she has espoused her whole life. Public service punctuated with integrity and honor. Standing courageously by the line of fire without fear or bias and always advocating for the welfare of the people above all else.”
Pumanaw si Santiago noong September 2016 sa edad na 71 matapos labanan ang cancer.
