NAVOTAS City Rep. Toby Tiangco has filed a bill granting income tax exemption for all senior citizens.
His proposed House Bill 6891 aims to expand the scope of the income tax exemption to all senior citizens regardless of income bracket.
“Majority of Filipino senior citizens do not have financial security. The pension and benefits they receive upon retirement are not enough to sustain their basic needs.”
The existing Republic Act No. 9994 stipulates income tax exemption only for senior citizens who’re considered minimum wage earners.
Rep. Tiangco said the current economic condition of Filipino elderly has prompted him to file the bill.
Passing DILG’s 2022 Good Financial Housekeeping standards
The city government has passed the 2022 Good Financial Housekeeping standards of the Department of the Interior and Local Government for its ‘clear and distinct utilization of public funds.’
“The seal of good financial housekeeping serves as validation of our efforts to spend our budget and finances in a transparent and honest manner while delivering programs and services most beneficial to our constituents,” said Mayor John Rey Tiangco.
“We owe this recognition to our city government employees for their continued commitment to provide quality public service and to all Navoteños for their unwavering support to our brand of governance.”
Navotas has also obtained Commission on Audit’s unqualified opinion, the highest mark it can give to an LGU or government agency, for seven consecutive years.
“It is the only LGU in Metro Manila with such a record,” he said.
Still the mayor during the first half of 2022, Rep. Tiangco has been hugely credited for gearing the city towards progress as his administration was also recipient of various awards and recognitions for good governance, among others.
Support new DSWD chief
Brothers – Mayor JRT and Congressman Toby have thrown their full support on newly-appointed Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian.
The Navotas lawmaker said the new DSWD chief was his former colleague at the House of Representatives and they’re both mayors especially during the pandemic years.
“Secretary Gatchalian is really good. For sure, he can effectively carry out his tasks as new DSWD secretary. He will deliver.”
Mayor JRT said the former Valenzuela mayor has been his mentor in public service.
“His programs and initiatives for Valenzuela City have greatly inspired me and I am confident that he can fulfill his role as a Cabinet secretary with flying colors.”
“I wish him all the best!” he added.
