MANILA, Philippines – Suportado ng Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) ang kautusan ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., na isuspinde ang ilang reclamation projects sa bansa.
Sinabi ni Bishop Jose Colin Bagaforo, presidente ng CBCP social arm Caritas Philippines na ang suspension sa 22 reclamation projects sa bansa ay “welcome development”.
Kasalukuyang nagsasagawa ng assessment ang Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) sa reclamation projects.
Gayundin, hinimok ng Obispo ang Pangulo na maglabas ng executive order na nagbabawal ng lahat ng reclamation projects hindi lamang sa Manila Bay ngunit sa buong bansa.
Idinagdag ng Catholic prelate na sinusuportahan nila ang anti-reclamation efforts ng civil society organizations at peoples organization.
“Reclamation projects displace fisherfolks and coastal urban communities, destroy coastal ecosystems, and contribute to food insecurity,” sabi pa ni Bagaforo. Jocelyn Tabangcura-Domenden
