MANILA, Philippines- Inihayag ng Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) nitong Martes na ang overseas demand para sa Filipino nurses ay “actually good news” at nagsasagawa ang bansa ng mga hakbang upang mapigilan ang local shortage ng healthcare professionals.
“The fact that our nurses are in demand abroad is actually good news because that means we produce world-class nurses. I think we should be worried if our professionals are not acceptable abroad,” giit ni CHED Chairperson Prospero De Vera III sa Palace briefing.
“That means our educational system is not good. So it’s a good sign, we just have to manage it better by producing more nurses,” aniya pa nang tanungin niya kung paano tinutugunan ng pamahalaan ang local brain drain sa healthcare sector.
Ani De Vera, sinisikap ng pamahalaan na itaas ang sahod ng mga nurse.
“There should also be an effort to reskill the existing ones and see how many of those who fail the licensure tests can be assisted to pass it,” pahayag niya.
Matatandaang nangako si Health Secretary Ted Herbosa na bibigyan ang mga nurse ng competitive salary na hihikayat sa kanila na manatili sa Pilipinas.
Sinabi naman ng grupo ng mga pribadong ospital na hinarap nila ang COVID-19 pandemic na may 40 porsyentong kakulangan sa mga nurse. RNT/SA
