MANILA, Philippines – Naglaan ang Visayas Command ng dalawang combat utility helicopters para sa Negros Oriental bilang bahagi ng pagpapaigting ng seguridad sa probinsya sa paparating na Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.
“The deployment of the two air assets in Negros Oriental is part of our contingency in case any hostile incidents may occur, especially during transport of the election returns after the voting period. These air assets aim to provide immediate close-air support to our ground troops, who will respond to these incidents,” saad sa pahayag ni Viscom commander Lieutenant General Benedict Arevalo.
Ang dalawang combat utility helicopters ay binubuo ng isang Blackhawk at isang Bell Helicopter, na nakapre-position sa Camp Leon Kilat sa Tanjay City at nasa ilalim ng pamamahala ng 302nd Infantry Brigade.
“We don’t want to take any chances. We know that the peace and order situation in Negros Oriental is now stable and very much under control by the government. We just want the people to feel safe and secure as they cast their votes and ensure that the upcoming electoral process will be successful,” ani Arevalo.
Noong Oktubre 18, nasa 181 tropa na binubuo ng mga tauhan mula sa Armed Forces of the Philippines mula sa VisCom, mga tauhan ng Philippine National Police mula sa PRO-7, at Coast Guard District-Central Visayas personnel, ang dumating sa probinsya para magbantay kasabay ng halalan.
Nasa kabuuang 2,719 AFP personnel na ang nakakalat sa Negros Oriental.
Sa nasabing bilang, 1,285 tauhan ang nakatutok sa military operations sa mga liblib na komunidad upang maiwasan na makapaghasik ng lagim ang mga miyembro ng CPP-NPA lalo na sa kabuuan ng electoral process sa iba’t ibang lugar.
Samantala, 1,394 na tauhan ang nakasuporta sa PNP sa pagbabantay sa Comelec checkpoints at siguruhing ligtas ang pagbiyahe sa mga election paraphernalia at maging sa polling centers.
Ang nalalabing 40 opisyal at mga tauhan ay nakatalaga para magmando sa Election Monitoring Action Centers (EMAC) at Joint Security Control Center (JSCC) sa probinsya.
Sa kasalukuyan ay umiiral ang curfew sa Negros Oriental mula Oktubre 28 hanggang Oktubre 31 upang masiguro ang kaligtasan ng publiko.
Nasa siyam na lugar sa probinsya ang nasa election watchlist, ang isa ay ikinategorya bilang area of concern dahil sa intense political rivalry, habag ang walo iba pa ay ikinategorya bilang areas of immediate concern dahil sa presensya umano ng hinihinalang mga rebelde. RNT/JGC
