MANILA, Philippines – Muling pinagtibay ng pamahalaan ang suporta nito sa paglaban sa marine pollution kasabay ng pagdiriwang ng 2023 Maritime Day.
“The Philippines proudly reaffirms its steadfast commitment to address marine pollution and foster a greener shipping industry. We recognize that the preservation of our oceans transcends borders and demands collective action of maritime industries,” saad sa pahayag ni Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo nitong Huwebes, Setyembre 28.
Ayon kay Manalo, taglay ng Pilipinas ang shared responsibility na siguruhin ang vitality ng mga karagatan sa kasalukuyan at para sa mga susunod na henerasyon.
“Guided by the principles of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL), we actively engage in collaboration initiatives to reduce emissions, adopt cleaner technologies, and implement sustainable practices that harmonize economic progress with environmental well-being,” ani Manalo.
Nanawagan din siya sa iba pang bansa na palakasin ang hakbang para protektahan ang marine ecosystems.
Ang 2023 Maritime Day ay tumapat sa ika-50 anibersaryo ng MARPOL, isang kasunduan sa pag-iwas sa polusyon sa marine environment mula sa mga barko, sa operational o accidental causes.
Sinabi naman ng United Nations na ang mundo ay patuloy na aasa sa safe, secure at efficient na international shipping industry, lalo na sa pangangailangan na palakasin ang sustainable maritime development. RNT/JGC
