MANILA, Philippines – Sinabi ng Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) nitong Lunes, Hulyo 10 na paiigtingin pa nito ang information dissemination laban sa mga scam at internet fraud.
Ito ay kasunod ng ulat na lumobo ng 152% ang pagtaas sa mga insidente ng cybercrime sa Metro Manila, o kabuuang 6,250 sa unang anim na buwan ngayong taon.
Sa kaparehong panahon noong nakaraang taon, nasa 2,477 ang insidenteng naitala.
Kasabay ng press briefing sa Camp Crame, Quezon City, sinbi ni ACG director Brig. Gen. Sidney Hernia na marami pa ring subscribers ang walang kamalay-malay sa mga “click the link” scam na target ang mga mobile wallet at online banking.
“The victim doesn’t know that if he or she clicks the link, it would lead to a site for updating bank details. If he or she falls into the scheme, there is a big possibility that the scammers would get a hold of his or her bank details, hence, the money would be transferred to another account,” dagdag pa ni Hernia.
Aniya, kinausap na din nila ang mga stakeholder at mobile wallet providers para sa mas malakawa na information dissemination at awareness campaigns kontra scam.
Binanggit din niya ang mas pinalakas na kapabilidad sa pagsasagawa ng imbestigasyon at acquisition ng mas marami pang advanced equipment.
“I am happy that the Chief PNP (Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr.) was formerly assigned to the ACG and he is supportive of our availment of subscriptions to the latest technologies against cybercrimes. He is also supportive of our trainings for our personnel so that we make sure that they are capable of investigating cybercrimes,” dagdag ni Hernia.
Aniya, patuloy nilang palalakasin ang ugnayan sa international counterparts upang labanan ang transnational cybercrimes.
“For now, we only have units up to the regional level and only 18 provinces have cyberteams. The strength of the ACG is only more than 800 and we still cannot afford to have teams at the station level,” dagdag niya. RNT/JGC
