MANILA, Philippines- Inanunsyo ng Department of Budget and Management (DBM) nitong Martes na naglaan ang Marcos administration ng P138.77 bilyon para sa higher education programs kabilang ang student subsidies at free tuition sa state universities at colleges sa ilalim ng 2023 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
Inihayag ng DBM na hinati ang P138.77-billion budget para sa higher education sa state universities and colleges (SUCs) sa P107.04 billion at para sa Commission on Higher Education o CHED naman ay P31.73 billion.
Bahagi ng budget ng SUCs ang gagamiting pondo para sa Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Program (UAQTE) na may P45.80 bilyong alokasyon.
Sinabi rin ng DBM na naglaan din ng pondo para sa iba pang educational programs para sa 2023.
Kabilang dito ang Student Financial Assistance Programs na may pondong P1.52 billion, na naglalayon na magbigay ng scholarships at grant-in-aid programs sa 21,053 kasalukuyang benepisyaryo.
Gayundin, may kabuuang P500 milyon ang nilaan para sa Medical Scholarship and Return Service Program para tulungan ang karapat-dapat na medical students na makapag-aral, kapalit ng pagseserbisyo sa public health offices o mga ospital, ayon sa DBM.
Samantala, gagamitin ang P167 milyon para sa tuition fees ng medical students sa SUCs, anito.
“This reflects the administration’s commitment to empower our youth. President Bongbong Marcos himself said that education is the only legacy we can leave our children that will never go to waste. Indeed, education is our best investment for the nation,” pahayag ni Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman.
“This is likewise in consonance with the promise of Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte to help the sector produce graduates that are employable,” dagdag niya. RNT/SA
