MANILA, Philippines – Naghihintay na lamang umano ng assessment sa environmental damage sa Rozul Reef ang Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) para sumuporta sa legal na hakbang ng bansa laban sa mga sangkot dito.
“The DFA understands that the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) is exploring legal options that the country may pursue. The DFA stands ready to contribute to this effort and will be guided by the OSG on these matters,” pahayag ni DFA Spokesperson Teresita Daza nitong Huwebes, Setyembre 21.
Nauna nang iniulat ng Armed Forces of the Philippines na matinding napinsala ang coral reefs sa Rozul reef kung saan namataan ang mga Chinese militia vessel.
Sa kaparehong pahayag, iginiit ni Daza ang 2016 Arbitral Award sa South China Sea, na lahat ng bansang pumapasok sa exclusive economic zone at maritime zones ng Pilipinas ay obligadong pangalagaan ang marine environment ng bansa.
“Article 192 of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea [also] obliges States to protect and preserve the marine environment,” dagdag ni Daza.
Hindi naman kinumpirma ng DFA kung naghain na ng diplomatic protest kaugnay nito. RNT/JGC
