Hindi itinaggi o kinumpirma ni House Speaker Martin Romualdez ang isyu ukol sa sinasabing naging donasyon nito na USD2 million sa Harvard University.
Ayon Kay Romualdez kinikilala niya at nirerespeto ang “gift policy” na inoobserba sa pretisyosong unibersidad sa Cambridge, Massachusetts.
“In light of recent speculations regarding my alleged donation to Harvard University, I choose to respect the institution’s gift policy.
Harvard has already communicated that they ‘do not discuss the terms or specifics of individual gifts’, and I stand by that principle,” pahayag ni Romualdez.
Si Romualdez ay huling bumisita sa Harvard noong Abril para sa isang speaking engagement.
Sinabi pa ni Romualdez na ang important sa kasalukuyan ay ang malaking milestone para sa bansa na mayroon nang Filipino language course sa Harvard.
“This is a remarkable acknowledgment of our culture and heritage on a global platform.As mentioned by Mr. Jose Marco C. ‘Marcky’ Antonio II ’25, co-president of the Harvard Undergraduate Philippine Forum, our focus should be on celebrating this achievement. I firmly believe in promoting and preserving our Filipino identity, and this step by Harvard is a testament to that effort,” paliwanag nito.
Taong 1636 itinatag ang Harvard at ngayon lamang nagkaroon ng Tagalog course sa kanilang mga academic offerings.
“The teaching of Tagalog at Harvard University is a source of great national pride. The university is one of the top academic institutions in the world, if not the best. Its programs are emulated or duplicated in other institutions of higher learning,”pagtatapos pa ni Romualdez. Gail Mendoza
