MANILA, Philippines – Sinabi ng Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) na namigay ito ng iba’t ibang tulong sa mahigit 1,000 miyembro ng media na may iba’t ibang pinagdaraanan o krisis sa buhay.
Ang anunsyong ito ng DSWD nitong Martes, Hulyo 4 ay kasunod ng pamamaril sa photojournalist ng Remate Online na si Joshua Abiad.
“Our goal here is for our friends in media to continue their duties as the public’s source of truthful and timely information. No one can deny the crucial role of media in nation building, while some of them even risk their lives just to fulfill their duties in the society. We can never abandon them during times of crisis, most especially when they are being hospitalized,” pahayag ni DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian.
Ayon pa sa DSWD, bahagi ito ng kanilang media welfare project kung saan nagkakaloob ng tulong katulad ng healthcare, pangkabuhayan, at welfare aid ang ahensya sa mga miyembro ng media.
Katumabs ito ng nasa P26.3 milyong halaga ng tulong.
“With this program, we can now let them feel that the government cares for their health and welfare,” ayon naman kay Undersecretary for Innovations Edu Punay, na dati ring mamamahayag.
Nasa kabuuang P50,000 na tulong naman ang naipamahagi sa pamilya ng napatay na radio broadcaster na si Cresenciano Bundoquin sa Oriental Mindoro. RNT/JGC
