MANILA, Philippines – Inaprubahan ng Kamara sa ikatlo at huling pagbasa ang House Bill 7909 o ang pagpapalawig ng estate tax amnesty hanggang sa 2025.
Sa oras na maisabatas ay aamyendahan ng panukala ang Tax Amnesty Act.
Ayon kay House Speaker Martin Romualdez, may-akda ng panukala, ang pagpapalawig ng amnesty ng dalawang taon na nakatakda sanang mapaso sa Hunyo 14, 2023 ay magbibigay-daan para makahabol pa ang mga nagmana ng assets na mapababa ang babayarang buwis.
“The proposal would also alleviate the burden of those who would want to avail of the amnesty but are still transitioning from financial difficulties to post-pandemic recovery,” pahayag ni Romualdez.
Sinabi ni House Ways and Means Committee chair Joey Salceda na nasa 920,000 pamilya ang makikinabang sa extension.
“Based on our simulations, almost a million Filipino families have estates to settle. That is despite the first Estate Tax Amnesty and its subsequent extension by two years,” paliwanag ni Salceda.
Umapela si Romualdez sa mga amnesty beneficiaries na samantalahin ang ibibigay na extension at inatasan din nito ang Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) na magkaroon ng simpleng amnesty application procedure at payagan ang online filing lalo na para sa mga overseas Filipino workers.
Matatandaan na sa kasagsagan ng pandemic ay una nang pinalawig ng Kamara ang amnesty na dapat natapos noong 2021.
Samantala, hiniling ni Salceda sa Senado na agad na maipasa ang Estate Tax Amnesty extension bago magrecess ang Kongreso sa Hunyo.
“I urge the Senate, for this and in general, try to match the speed with which the House disposes of urgent measures. For estate tax amnesty extension, it’s a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ question. Not much need for debate here. It’s simply to extend or not to extend. If the Senate doesn’t do this over the next few days, the amnesty will expire while we are not in session” pagtatapos pa ni Salceda. Gail Mendoza
