MANILA, Philippines – NAGPAHAYAG ng kahandaan si European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen na ibahagi ang impormasyon sa Pilipinas upang palakasin ang pagtutulungan sa maritime security.
Sa joint press statement kasama si Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr., sinabi ni von der Leyen, ang global geopolitical landscape ay may pagbabago at banta sa kasalukuyan.
Binigyang diin din nito ang posisyon ng EU sa arbitral ruling na nagpapawalang saysay sa malawakang pag-angkin ng China sa South China Sea.
“The European Union underlines that the 2016 award of the arbitral tribunal on the South China Sea is legally binding and that it provides the basis for peaceful resolving disputes between the parties,” ayon kay von der Leyen.
“We are ready to strengthen the cooperation between the Philippines on maritime security in the region by sharing information, conducting threat assessment and building the capacity of your national coast guard center and your coast guard,” dagdag na wika nito.
Aniya pa, itinutulak ng EU ang “free and open Indo-Pacific” dahil, “an Indo-Pacific free from threats of coercion is key to all our stability, our peace and to the prosperity of our people.”
Dumating si Von der Leyen sa Palasyo ng Malakanyang bago mag-alas-10:00 ng umaga, araw ng Lunes, Hulyo 31 para sa bilateral meeting kasama si Pangulong Marcos.
“Marcos had invited her to visit the Philippines,” ayon sa EU.
