MANILA, Philippines – Binalaan ni House Speaker Martin Romualdez ang mga hoarders ng sibuyas at bawang na ipakukulong ito kung gagawa muli ng artificial scarcity o magtatago ng supply upang magkaaroon ng pagtaas sa presyo.
Ang banta ay ginawa ni Romualdez matapos atasan ang House Committee on Agriculture and Food na magsagawa ng imbestigasyon sa nangyayaring hoarding ng sibuyas at bawang, aniya, dapat tukuyin at sampahan ng kaso ang mga nasa likod nito.
Ang imbestigasyon ay iniutos ni Romualdez kasunod na rin ng hindi pa rin pagbaba ng presyo ng nasabing produkto sa kabila na mayroong harvest season at pumasok na din sa bansa ang mga imported na sibuyas.
“We received information that these people are hoarding onion, and more recently even garlic, to create an artificial scarcity in supply and induce price increases. The House panel will study the option of recommending to the President the calibrated importation of onion and garlic as means to force these unscrupulous individuals to unload their stocks and drive down the prices to alleviate the burden on the consumers,” paliwanag ni Romualdez.
Tiniyak niya na bagamat nagsagawa ng importation ay hindi ito dapat makaapekto sa bentahan ng ani ng mga local farmers.
“It is very important to ensure that any importation should consist of such quantity and be done well ahead of the harvest season to avoid any adverse effect on the livelihood of our local farmers,” pagtiyak nito.
Maliban sa gagawing imbestigasyon, nais din ni Romualdez na magkaroon ng daily monitoring sa presyo ng sibuyas at bawang sa lokal na pamilihan. Gail Mendoza
