ICELAND – Nagdeklara ang Iceland ng state of emergency dahil sa banta ng posibleng volcanic eruption sa bansa, kasunod ng sunod-sunod na lindol na naitala.
Sa ulat, nasa 800 lindol ang naitala sa pagitan ng hatinggabi hanggang alas-2 ng hapon nitong Biyernes, Nobyembre 10 kung saan ang pinakamababaw ay naitala sa lalim na 3 hanggang 3.5 kilometro, ayon sa Icelandic Meteorological Office.
Sa pahayag, sinabi ng Civil Protection Agency ng Iceland na ang magma tunnel na nabubuo ay posibleng umabot sa Grindavík.
Kasunod nito ay sinabi ng mga awtoridad na imposibleng malaman kung ang magma nga ba talaga ay bubulwak at kung saan ito makakarating.
“Earthquakes may become bigger than those that have already occurred, and this sequence of events could lead to an eruption. However, there are still no signs that the magma is nearing the surface. Its progress is being closely monitored,” ayon sa Civil Protection Agency.
Hinikayat ng mga awtoridad ang mga residente na kalmadong lumikas.
“We want to reiterate that residents MUST evacuate their homes and leave the town. But we also want to reiterate that this is not an emergency evacuation, there is plenty of time to prepare, secure things and drive out of town calmly,” dagdag pa.
“It is clear that we are dealing with events that we Icelanders have not experienced before, at least not since the eruption in Vestmannaeyjar. We faced that together, we will face this together and we will not lose heart,” pagpapatuloy ng ahensya. RNT/JGC
