MANILA, Philippines- Sinabi ng Land Transportation Office (LTO) nitong Huwebes na kinokonsidera nitong kasuhan ang operators at drivers ng iligal na public utility at school service vehicles sa pinaigting nitong crackdown sa mga iligal na gawain.
Kasunod ito ng utos ni Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista sa madalas na reklamo ng lehitimong PUV operators, ayon kay LTO chief Vigor Mendoza II.
“Dati hindi kami nagfa-file ng criminal action regarding colorum vehicles. Now we’re looking at the possibility of filing criminal actions against operators, drivers who continue to use their vehicles illegally,” aniya sa isang panayam.
Sinabi ni Mendoza na nalalagay sa kapahamakan ang mga pasahero sa mga iligal na operasyon dahil hindi sumailalim ang mga sasakyan sa pagsusuri.
Aniya, makatutulong din ang pagpigil sa illegal PUVs sa mga kalsada na madagdagan ang kita ng licensed operators dahil mas marami silang maisasakay na mga pasahero.
“It can cushion them, especially in these times of high fuel prices. If we can augment their income by apprehending these illegal activities then we can help the general public also by cushioning any possible fare increase. Maybe there may not be a need to go for a fare increase if we can really bring up the level of income of our legitimate public transport operators,” paliwanag ni Mendoza. RNT/SA
