MANILA, Philippines – Tumanggap ang Department of Agriculture (DA) at Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) ng P314 million halaga ng farm equipment na ibinigay ng pamahalaan ng Japan para sa mga maliliit na sugarcane farmers.
Mismong si Agriculture Attache Jumpei Tachikawa ng Japanese Embassy ang nagturn-over ng donasyon kay Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel, SRA Administrator Pablo Luis Azcona, at mga representative ng mga benepisyaryo mula Luzon, Visayas at Mindanao.
Ani Laurel, ang modernisasyon ng agrikultura ng bansa ay mahalagang hakbang upang maabot ang target ng pamahalaan na mas mura at accessible na mga pagkain.
Pinasalamatan naman ng opisyal ang pamahalaan ng Japan para sa 80 tractors, 48 sugarcane planters, 48 flail mowers, at 5 power harrows na ibinigay ng Japan sa ilalim ng Japan Non-Project Aid Program sa turnover ceremony na ginanap sa SRA Compound sa Bacolod City.
“Mechanization reduces hard labor, relieves labor shortages, and improves the productivity and timeliness of agricultural operations,” sinabi ni Laurel.
Pinuri naman niya ang SRA sa pagpapaunlad sa sugarcane industry patungo sa pagpapataas ng produksyon nito sa pamamagitan ng maliliit na magsasaka ng tubo.
Iginiit ni Laurel na kokonsulta siya sa mga stakeholders, kabilang ang lahat ng mga departamento ng DA, upang maabot ang target ng Pangulo na pababain ang presyo ng food items gaya ng bigas, asukal, karne, manok, isda, at mga gulay sa pamamagitan ng pagpapataas ng food production.
“I have been on a journey of administrative responsibility. I went to see first-hand conditions throughout the agriculture sector, to see how effectively national and local authorities are taking care of the Filipino farmers’ pressing problems and how they work together to support national food security,” dagdag pa niya.
Pagtatapos, nagpasalamat naman si Laurel sa mga opisyal ng Japanese embassy na tumulong para matupad ang grant.
“I’d like to express my gratitude to Mr. Jumpei Tachikawa, the first secretary and agriculture attaché at the Japanese Embassy, who has been instrumental in the success of this program,” anang Kalihim.
“Our partnership with the Japanese government helps us address this concern through modernization and mechanization. Our two nations are bound by common interests. Our trading partnership, which brings greater prosperity and opportunity to citizens of both our countries, has grown dramatically in recent years,” dagdag pa nito. RNT/JGC
