Light volcanic smog naitala sa Bulkang Taal

MANILA, Philippines – Nakapagtala ang Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) ng light volcanic smog o vog sa bunganga ng Bulkang Taal.

Ayon sa ahensya, ang vog ay naitala mula 8:30 ng umaga hanggang 1:30 ng hapon nitong Miyerkules, Enero 10, at naitala sa pamamagitan ng IP camera shots sa Cuenca Observation Station, at Taal Volcano Observatory-Buco Observation Station.

“Voluminous degassing produced a pronounced plume that rose 2400 meters above the Taal Main Crater before drifting to the southwest and south-southwest,” iniulat ng PHIVOLCS, sabay-sabing mayroong tumataas na trend mula pa noong nakaraang taon.

“Time-series Sulfur Dioxide or SO2 emission from Taal Volcano for 2023 and (inset) since the 2020 eruption, showing an increasing trend (since August 2023). The latest SO2 measurement was at 10,933 tonnes/day on 08 January 2024,” sinabi pa ng ahensya.

Hanggang noong Nobyembre 2023, nananatili sa Alert Level 1 ang Bulkang Taal at patuloy na naglalabas ng mataas na konsentrasyon ng volcanic SO2 mula Marso 2021, at ang emissions na nag-aaverage 5,019 tonnes/day mula Setyembre 2023. RNT/JGC
