“I am keeping an open mind on the suggestions of the United States to add nuclear energy from small nuclear reactors into the future energy mix of the Philippines. The key words here are ‘add’ and ‘suggestions’,” ayon kay Herrera.
“I am keeping an open mind also because we have yet to conduct the necessary and new feasibility, engineering, safety, and economic studies. These studies will take a few or several years depending on the availability of funds and on interest among investors and financiers. We have also yet to see the revisions to the Philippine Energy Plan so we can appreciate the big picture of how much, in the long term, nuclear energy will be as a part of the total mix of energy sources.”
