THE Navotas City government has prepared a series of activities to commemorate its 118th founding anniversary on January 16.
“Another fruitful year of overcoming challenges has come and gone. Through this celebration, we express our gratefulness for the guidance and blessings that we received from the Almighty for the past years,” Mayor John Rey Tiangco said.
With the theme: ‘Kapag Tulong-Tulong, Angat ALL, Saya ALL,’ the Navotas Day celebration has kicked off its festivities with the Holy Mass and launching of the ‘Kalye Fiesta,’ a banchetto-style night market, at the Navotas Citywalk and Amphitheater.
To wrap up the celebration, the city government will distribute packs of rice to residents on January 17-22.
Top 10 Most Outstanding Fisherfolks
Mayor JRT led the awarding of Top 10 Most Outstanding Fisherfolk during the annual ‘Araw ng Mangingisda.’
Orlando Dela Cruz from Barangay Tangos South was hailed as the Most Outstanding Fisherfolk. He and the other awardees received a plaque of recognition, cash prizes, and NavotaAs Ulirang Pamilyang Mangingisda Scholarship grants for one of their family members.
To qualify for the recognition, they must be registered Navoteño fisherfolk without pending or on-going cases or conviction of any crimes, and must have created milestones that are worthy of emulation and inspiration of their fellow fisherfolk.
Among the nominees were Rowena Faina from Barangay Tangos South; Hilario Encierto Jr., Brgy. Navotas West; Efren Abad, Brgy. Tangos North; Corazon Bayrante, Brgy. Tanza 1; and Joseph Barlan, Brgy. Navotas West.
Also awarded were Teotico Taruc from Brgy. Tanza 2; Angelina Abad, Brgy. Tangos North; Patricio Manzano, Brgy. Tangos South; and Analyn Letegio, Brgy. Tanza 2.
“Fisheries is the pillar of our city. Navotas would not have reached its current success if not for its hardworking fisherfolk,” the mayor said.
Navotas elderly get P1,000 birthday gift
The city’s senior citizens are not left behind, they’d get at least P1, 000 as birthday gift, the mayor said.
“We acknowledge the invaluable contribution of our senior citizens to the progress of our city. We hope to support them in fully enjoying their twilight years even through this small gift.”
The city government also grants P10,000 cash gift to Navoteños who reach 100 years old and P1,000 monthly afterwards.
Furthermore, they could watch movies for free at Fisher Mall Malabon every Monday and Tuesday.
