NEDA: P5.8T investments kailangan para sa 2040 power generation mix

MANILA, Philippines- Mangangailangan ang Pilipinas ng $103.6 bilyon o P5.8 trilyong halaga ng investments sa renewable energy projects upang maabot ang target power generation mix sa 2040, sabi ng economic managers sa prospective investors sa Middle East nitong Martes.

Sinabi ni National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Secretary Arsenio Balisacan na makatutulong ang investments upang makamit ng Pilipinas ang layunin nitong magkaroon ng renewable energy account para sa 50% ng  generation mix nito sa 2040.

“A more sustainable and resilient energy system will significantly drive the Philippines’ socioeconomic transformation. The country will need more foreign direct investments in renewable energy,” aniya sa Philippine Economic Briefing sa Dubai.

Pinapayagan ang foreign investors o mga kompanya na makipagtulungan sa Philippine renewable energy sector matapos amyendahan ng Department of Energy (DOE) noong November 2022 ang implementing rules and regulations (IRR) ng Renewable Energy Act of 2008.

Sinisilip din ng administrasyon na amyendahan ang Electric Power Industry Reform Act (EPIRA) upang pababain ang halaga ng kuryente sa buong bansa.

“Renewable energy is also a priority under the Strategic Investment Priority Plan, which contains investment areas that may receive fiscal incentives,” pahayag ni Balisacan.

Sinang-ayunan naman ito ni Finance Secretary Benjamin Diokno, na binigyang-diin ang pagsisikap ng bansa na dagdagan ang bahagi ng renewable energy sa generation mix.

“We want to transition from a dirty source of energy to cleaner energy, and again, we need a lot of investment there, and as I mentioned earlier, we have opened up that area so you can invest in solar, wind, tidal… Those are critical, plus a growing economy needs a lot of energy,” aniya. RNT/SA
