MANILA, Philippines – Hinikayat ng Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) ang mga nakababatang henerasyon na magkaroon ng interes sa pagsasaka.
Ayon kay DAR Undersecretary Marilyn Yap, nagsisilbing banta rin sa food security ng bansa ang tumatanda nang populasyon ng mga magsasaka.
Maliban sa mga ahensya ng gobyerno, dapat din umanong suportahan ng pribadong sektor ang inobasyon sa agrikultura.
“The challenge is also to bring in a new generation of young farmers. Let’s make agriculture sexy again,” sinabi ni Yap sa panayam ng ANC.
“Young people are into data [and] technology. They can look at TikTok and all the rest of social media everyday but that is precisely the system through which we can bring in knowledge and new agriculture,” dagdag pa niya.
Para kay Yap, matagal nang napabayaan ang sektor ng agrikultura.
“I think it’s time we open the gates. Pour more resources. Plot systematically with a vision for the future,” pagtatapos niya. RNT/JGC
