P1.4M illegal logs, nasabat sa Agusan, Surigao

BUTUAN CITY- Nasamsam ng mga pulis ang 29,314.10 board feet ng undocumented lumber na nagkakahalaga ng P1.4 milyon sa pinaigting na kampanya laban sa illegal logging sa Surigao del Sur at Agusan del Sur.

Sinabi ni Police Regional Office-13 Director Police Brig. Gen. Pablo G. Labra II na nagresulta ang all-out forest protection drive mula May 15 hanggang 21 sa pagkakaaresto ng isang suspek na kasalukuyang nahaharap sa kasong may kinalaman sa Presidential Decree 705 o ang Forestry Code of the Philippines.

Inihayag ni Labra na naging posible ito sa pakikipagtulungan sa local police, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), at sa komunidad.

Sinabi ng PRO-13 Regional Operations Division na nakumpiska ng Surigao del Sur Police Provincial Office (PPO) ang 5,239.66 board feet ng undocumented lumber na nagkakahalaga ng P822,003 habang naharang ng Agusan del Sur PPO ang 23,272.85 board feet ng illegally cut logs na tinatayang nagkakahalaga ng P551,487.

Nakumpiska rin ng Regional Mobile Force Battalion 13 ang 588.59 board feet ng undocumented lumber na nagkakahalaga ng P26,486.55 habang nabuking ng Surigao del Norte PPO ang 213 board feet ng illegally cut logs na may presyong P8,533.

“The focus of our police operations does not solely revolve around the arrest of criminals, eradication of illegal drugs, and neutralization of the Communist Terrorist Group,” ani Labra.“We also give utmost priority to the protection and preservation of our natural resources especially our forest areas because these gifts of nature are vital for the survival of humankind.”
