MANILA, Philippines – Mismong si Ombudsman Samuel Martires na ang humiling sa Senado at Kamara na bawasan na lamang ang confidential at intelligence fund ng kanyang opisina mula sa P51 milyon ay gawin na lamang P1 milyon para sa taong 2024 at 2025.
Ang hirit na ito ni Martires ay sa pamamagitan ng magkahiwalay na liham na may petsang Oktubre 6, 2023 para kay House Appropriations chair Zaldy Co at Senate Finance chair Sonny Angara, na isinapubliko nito lamang Miyerkules, Oktubre 11.
Nakakuha na ng kopya ng liham sina House Speaker Martin Romualdez at Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri.
“Consistent with my earlier pronouncement on the matter, I would like to officially request that notwithstanding its investigative functions, that the Office of the Ombudsman be appropriated the amount of One Million Pesos (P1,000,000.00) for its Confidential and Intelligence Fund (CIF) in FYs 2024 and 2025 or until the end of my term of office as Ombudsman,” ayon kay Martires.
Nauna na niyang sinabi kay Senate minority leader Koko Pimentel na makakaapekto sa reputasyon at integridad ng kanyang opisina kung magkakaroon ng malaking confidential funds.
“I think we can survive without the confidential fund,” ani Martires kasabay ng September 27 Senate Finance subcommittee hearing.
Matatandaan naging matinding usapin ang paghirit ng confidential funds ng ilang ahensya ng pamahalaan at ang pagputok ng isyu na ginastos lamang sa loob ng 11 araw noong 2022 ang P125 milyong confidential funds ni Vice President Sara Duterte.
Para sa taong 2024, humihiling si Duterte ng P500 milyong CIF sa Office of the Vice President at P150 million sa ilalim ng Department of Education.
Nitong Martes, inanunsyo ng Kamara na inalis na nila ang confidential funds mula sa dalawang opisina, kabilang ang Department of Education, Department of Agriculture, Department of Information and Communications Technology, at Department of Foreign Affairs. RNT/JGC
