MANILA, Philippines – Nangako si Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte na ipagpatuloy ang walang kinikilingan na imbestigasyon sa viral road rage case na kinasasangkutan ng isang na-dismiss na pulis, habang pinuri niya si city police district chief, Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III na nagbitiw sa pwesto.
Noong Miyerkules, sinabi ni Torre na nagsumite na siya ng kanyang resignation letter kay Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr.
Bilang tugon, ipinahayag ni Belmonte ang kanyang pasasalamat sa pagsisikap at dedikasyon ni Torre sa buong panunungkulan niya.
“Regarding the particular incident that led to Brig. Gen. Torre’s resignation: I understand that missteps are a part of everyone’s journey, and it is the manner in which we address them that truly defines us. His willingness to take ownership of the situation is commendable,” ayon sa pahayag ng alkalde.
“Nevertheless, we will continue to pursue a fair and unbiased investigation of this matter. The City Legal Department and the PLEB (People’s Law Enforcement Board) remain committed to ascertaining the truth in pursuit of justice and accountability,” dagdag pa niya.
Patuloy din ang pagtitiwala ng pamahalaang lungsod sa Quezon City Police District (QCPD), PNP, at iba pang law enforcement agencies sa paghawak ng kaso, ayon kay Belmonte.
Noong Agosto 29, nagsampa ng reklamong alarm and scandal ang QCPD laban kay Gonzales. Bukod dito, hinihikayat ng PNP ang siklista na humarap at magsampa ng reklamo dahil plano nitong magsampa ng mas maraming kaso laban sa natanggal na pulis. RNT
