MANILA, Philippines – NANAWAGAN ang Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) nitong Miyerkules ng makatarungang kompensasyon at proteksyong panlipunan para sa mga basurero.
Sinabi ni DENR Secretary Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga na dapat itong maging bahagi ng pagpapatupad ng Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Act.
“We have been moving for, under this new extended producer responsibility law, the inclusion of our informal waste management sector into the formal system of solid waste management,” sabi ni Loyzaga sa isang Palace briefing.
“Which means, our waste workers that are not formally employed, be justly compensated, covered by occupational safety, and given social protection, as well as the fair wage for their contribution to the solid waste management industry,” idinagdag pa nito.
Nauna nang sinabi ng DENR na dapat kilalanin ang papel ng mga garbage collectors sa waste management sa pagpapatupad ng EPR law.
Kaugnay nito ang EPR Act ay naging batas noong 2022, ngunit ang mga patakaran at regulasyon sa pagpapatupad nito ay inilabas lamang noong Enero.
Ang batas ay nag-aatas sa malalaking kumpanya na bawiin ang plastic packaging waste na kanilang nagagawa sa pamamagitan ng tamang paggamot at pag-recycle. Santi Celario
