MANILA, Philippines- Nagpahayag ng interes si Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. sa paggamit ng nuclear energy.
“All efforts to increase the number of power sources lean towards clean energy,” ang sinabi ni Pangulong Marcos sa mga American business leader.
“That being the case, I am interested in the potential of nuclear energy, especially in light of new technologies and innovations that allow the use of smaller scale, modular, nuclear reactors, and other advanced [reactors] technologies that we see as being safer and more efficient than the more traditional designs of nuclear power production,” dagdag na wika niya.
Aniya pa, may “ongoing discussions” ang Pilipinas sa Estados Unidos ukol sa 123 Agreement, na makapagbibigay ng legal framework para sa civil at nuclear-related investments, partikular na ang nuclear power, sa bansa.
“Together with the United States and other partners, especially the private sector, we will build the necessary infrastructure to help power a growing economy, as we transition to clean and renewable energy,” ayon kay Pangulong Marcos.
Sa kanyang unang State of the Nation Address (SONA), nagpahayag si Pangulong Marcos ng kanyang hangarin na mag-adopt ng nuclear energy bilang bahagi ng power mix ng bansa subalit ang estratehiya ng pamahalaan ay dapat na muling pag-isipan.
Sa naging pagbisita ni Pangulong Marcos sa Washington noong Mayo, nakipagpulong ang Pangulo sa mga opisyal ng Ultra Safe Nuclear Corporation, na isang US-based firm global leader at vertical integrator ng “nuclear technologies at services.”
Kinonsidera ng Pangulo ang “cutting-edge” micro nuclear fuel technology bilang bahagi ng hakbang para tugunan ang power crisis sa bansa. Kris Jose
