MANILA, Philippines – Ibinahagi ng Private Sector Advisory Council (PSAC) nitong Biyernes, Mayo 19 na inaprubahan na ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ang pagpapalawig sa Comprehensive Automotive Resurgence Strategy (CARS) program ng lima pang taon.
Sa pahayag, sinabi ng PSAC na “the extension of CARS for five years will continue to provide incentives and support for manufacturers that meet specific requirements in terms of investment, production, and technology development.”
“CARS will also continue to provide significant employment opportunities as well as the foundation for the future development of the economy,” saad pa sa abiso.
Ang CARS program ay nilikha sa pamamagitan ng paglalabas ng Executive Order No. 182 in 2015, na nagbibigay ng anim na taon sa mga carmakers a kailangan makaabot sa minimum volume target sales na 200,000 sa locally manufactured cars para sa enrolled car models, para makakuha ang mga ito ng insentibo.
Inilista ng Mitsubishi Motors ang kanilang Mirage sa programa habang ang Vios naman ang inilista ng Toyota Motors.
Nakatakda nang magtapos ngayong taon ang partisipasyon ng Mitsubishi sa programa at sa 2024 naman sa Toyota.
“CARS has demonstrated its effectiveness and value as a high-end manufacturing operation which has greatly helped in the creation of jobs, transfer technology, and boost global competitiveness by supporting domestic auto manufacturing and stimulating investment,” ayon sa PSAC.
Noong Pebrero ay inanunsyo ng Palasyo na pinag-aaralan ng administrasyong Marcos ang extension ng CARS program.
Samantala, sinabi ng PSAC na inirekomenda naman nito sa Pangulo ang Motorcycle Business Program.
Layon ng advisory council na palawakin ang nagpapatuloy na motorcycle taxi operations na kasalukuyang nasa pilot study sa Metro Manila at Metro Cebu, sa pamamagitan ng executive order na bubuo ng dalawang milyong trabaho para sa mga habal-habal riders. RNT/JGC
