MANILA, Philippines – Hinimok ng United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) ang Kongreso na ipasa na ang antidiscrimination bill o SOGIESC bill kasabay ng selebrasyon ng Pride Month ngayong Hunyo.
Ayon sa UNFPA, ito ay napakahalaga para sa pagsusulong ng mas inklusibong Pilipinas.
“For the United Nations Population Fund, Pride Month is a call to action. It’s a time to amplify our commitment to ensuring that every individual, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, is entitled to their human rights, including access to comprehensive sexual and reproductive health and rights information and services without discrimination,” saad sa pahayag ni UNFPA Philippines country representative Dr. Leila Joudane.
Ang Senate Bill No. 139, o Sogiesc Equality Act, na inihain ni Senador Risa Hontiveros noong Hulyo 7, 2022 ay pumasa sa committee level noong Disyembre 2022 ngunit nabalahaw sa ikalawang pagbasa.
Inaprubahan din sa committee level ang counterpart bill sa Kamara noong Mayo 2023.
Ayon kay Joudane, maraming mga bansa sa mundo ang nakakita ng paglago ng global recognition sa mga karapatan ng LGBTQI+ na sumasalamin sa pagbabago sa social at legal norms at nagbibigay-daan sa mas pinabuting health outcomes at inclusion. RNT/JGC
