MANILA, Philippines – Nag-abstain sa pagboto ang Pilipinas para sa resolusyon ng United Nations (UN) General Assembly na nananawagan ng tigil-putukan o humanitarian truce sa Gaza, dahil hindi umani nito binanggit o kinondena man lang ang pag-atake ng Hamas sa Israel noong Oktubre 7.
Sinabi ni Philippines Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Antonio Lagdameo na lubhang nababahala ang Pilipinas sa nagpapatuloy na giyera sa pagitan ng Israel at Hamas kasabay ng pagkondena rin nito sa pag-atake ng Hamas noong Oktubre 7 na ikinasawi ng maraming buhay, kabilang ang ilang Filipino.
“The ongoing conflict deeply concerns us, with its broad and profound impact on countless innocent civilians, including Filipino nationals and their families,” pahayag ni Lagdameo kasabay ng 10th Emergency Special Session ng UN General Assembly.
“We call for the end of the taking and detainment of individuals, particularly women and children. We reiterate our plea to the international community to come together and provide essential humanitarian aid and support to the affected,” dagdag pa niya.
Ani Lagdameo, bagama’t maraming elemento sa resolusyon sa suportado ng Pilipinas, pinili pa rin umano ng delegasyon niya na mag-abstain sa pagboto para rito dahil sa hindi pagbanggit patungkol sa ginawa ng Hamas.
“However, as we would condemn all terrorist attacks, the resolution does not mention nor condemn the terrorist attack of 7 October by Hamas leading to the deaths of innocent civilians, including women and children, as well as Filipinos,” sinabi ng ambassador.
“Therefore, despite commendable efforts of the co-sponsors to improve the original text, for these reasons, my delegation abstained on the resolution,” pagpapatuloy niya.
“We supported the efforts of Canada to include a factual mention in the resolution of the attacks on 07 October, in which Filipinos were killed,” pagtatapos ni Lagdameo.
Sa kabila nito, patuloy pa ring susuporta ang bansa sa mga hakbang ng UN, partikular ang UN Security Council sa pagtugon sa krisis sa Gaza at Israel.
Ang resolusyon ay nakakuha ng 45 abstentions, 14 ang tutol dito habang 120 ang pabor. RNT/JGC
