MANILA, Philippines – Nagkaisa ang dalawang senador sa panawagan sa pamahalaan ng Pilipinas na rebyuhin ang estratehiyang ginagamit upang tugunan ang illegal na panghihimasok at panggigipit ng China sa West Philippine Sea (WPS).
Sa magkahiwalay na pahayag, kapwa nanindigan sina Senador Grace Poe at JV Ejercito na kumondena sa “dangerous blocking maneuvers” ng Chinese vessels sa WPS nitong Linggo.
Nagresulta ito ng banggaan ng barko ng Pilipinas na regular na nagsasagawa ng resupply mission sa tropang Filipino na naka-istasyon sa Ayungin Shoal.
“While an immediate diplomatic protest is anticipated, the recent incident calls for a serious rethinking of our strategies in dealing with these acts,” ayon kay Poe sa pahayag.
“As we firmly assert our rights in our waters, fortifying our relations with like-minded states must continue to thwart similar belligerent actions,” giit niya.
Ikinababahala ni Poe na uminit nang husto ang tensiyon sa pagitan ng China at Pilipinas pero posibleng maging potensiyal na flashpoint sa rehiyon.
Sa hiwalay na pahayag, kinondena naman ni Ejercito ang China sa pagsasabing “it has gone too far in disrespecting the Philippines.”
“The reckless maneuvers executed by the CCG (China Coast Guard), which resulted in a collision with the Armed Forces of the Philippines-contracted resupply vessel, were not only provocative but also a blatant act of bullying that must be denounced, not only by us but by the international community,” aniya.
Hihikayat din ng senador ang mamamayang Filipino na matinding igiit ang 2016 arbitral ruling na malinaw na nagpapatibay sa exclusive rights ng Pilipinas sa West Philippine Sea.
Ipinaalala din ng mambabatas sa pamahalaan ang tungkulin nito na tiyakin ang kaligtasan ng ating karagatan sa lahat ng Filipino.
