MANILA, Philippines- Nakatakdang mag-export ng avocado ang Pilipinas sa South Korea kasunod ng pagtatapos ng kinakailangan at mahalagang proseso na ni-require ng Seoul.
Ayon sa Philippine Embassy sa Seoul, ang commercial shipment ng hass avocado— isang large-sized na uri ng avocado— ay inaasahan bago matapos ang buwan.
“The imported fruit will be sourced from orchards and packing houses of DOLE Philippines in Davao, Bukidnon and South Cotabato, which are accredited by the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI),” ayon sa embahada.
Ang Hass avocado ay popular sa Koreans bilang pangunahing nutritional ingredients para sa kanilang salad at sandwiches, subalit karamihan sa mga ito ay mula sa Latin America.
“Koreans have yet to be familiarized with Philippine hass avocados,” ayon pa rin sa embahada.
Tinuran ng Philippine government na una nitong hiniling ang South Korea market access para sa avocado nito noong 2019.
Gayunman, dahil sa one-at-a time policy ng bansa, para sa Pest Risk Analysis (PRA), ang market access ay natengga sa stage 4 at magpapatuloy lamang matapos ang Philippine okra exports na inaprubahan noong 2021.
“We thank the Korean government for finally approving the market access of our hass avocado exports,” ayon kay DA Senior Undersecretary Domingo Panganiban.
“This market access milestone is made possible through the effort of the DA (Department of Agriculture) Bureau of Plant Industry headed by Dir. Gerald Glenn Panganiban and the Philippine Agriculture Office in Seoul headed by Agriculture Attache Aleli Maghirang who closely collaborates with their counterparts in MAFRA-APQA (Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs-Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency),” dagdag niya.
Ang South Korea ay lucrative market para sa Philippine agricultural exports dahil isa ito sa “largest food importers” sa buong mundo.
“In 2022, it is the 4th largest destination of Philippine agri-food exports with 574.27 million USD total agri-fisheries exports value,” ayon sa embahada.
Sa kabila ng mga hamon na dala ng pandemya, nakapagtala ang Pilipinas ng 9% increase sa agri-fisheries exports sa Korea noong 2022, nakalikha ito ng 307.47 USD million trade surplus, pabor sa Pilipinas.
Sinabi pa ng embahada na mayorya o 56% ng Philippine agricultural exports sa Korea ay tropical fruits.
“In terms of market share, the Philippines supplies 75 percent of fresh bananas, 100 percent of fresh pineapples and papayas and five percent of fresh mangoes in Korea,” pahayag ng embahada.
Ang Pilipinas ang sole exporter ng sariwang okra sa Korea, itinuturing naman na top high-value seafood products ang abalone, sea cucumber, octopus, blood cockle, eel at mga isda, na ini-export. Kris Jose
