MANILA, Philippines – Nanawagan ang government-recognized institution na nagrerepresenta sa lokal na iron at steel industry sa pamahalaan na pangalanan ang mga manufacturer at sellers ng substandard steel products.
Sinabi ito ng Philippine Iron and Steel Institute (PISI) nitong Huwebes, Hulyo 13, na bagama’t pinupuri nila ang hakbang ng pamahalaan na sugpuin ang mga illegal na aktibidad, dapat din na siguruhin nito ang kaligtasan, stability at durability ng mga istruktura ng mamamayan.
“We commend Trade Secretary Alfredo Pascual and Consumer Protection Group Undersecretary Ruth Castelo for pressing the government’s drive to ensure that only high-quality, compliant steel products reach the market,” pahayag ni PISI president Ronald Magsajo.
Hinimok ni Magsajo ang Trade Secretary na paigtingin pa ang hakbang kontra sa mga kompanyang ito at pangalanan na, “for the sake of transparency and safety of the consuming public”.
Anang PISI official, ang nagpapatuloy na crackdown sa substandard at uncertified steel “is meant to protect the public from bad actors in the industry that are peddling products that compromise the integrity of homes, buildings and public infrastructure and putting millions of lives at risk”.
Kung babalikan, matatandaang kinumpiska ng Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) ang nasa P30 milyon halaga ng steel products sa Davao City at Laguna na hindi nakaabot sa quality at safety standards para sa naturang produkto.
Aabot naman sa P8 milyon halaga ng black at galvanized iron steel pipes, deformed steel bars, low-carbon steel wires at polyethylene pipes para sa potable water ang kinumpiska, kasabay ng paglalabas ng mga awtoridad ng
notices of violation sa 22 ng 23 firms na ininspeksyon. RNT/JGC
