UNDER the leadership of determined and competent female jail warden, Supt. Michelle Ng-Bonto, the Quezon City Jail-Male Dormitory has bagged the award once again as Top 1 – Best City Jail during the 8th Regional Management Meeting and Awarding Ceremony of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology held recently.

BJMP-National Capital Region director Chief Supt. Efren Nemeno handed the recognition to Ng-Bonto who has been reaping praises from many sectors and government officials led by Mayor Joy Belmonte and City Administrator Mike Alimurung for her dynamic leadership amid challenges, being a woman in-charge of an all-male detention facility, among others.

QCJMD’s remarkable achievement could be attributed to the “Winning Hearts and Minds Approach” being advocated by the said warden.

She’s been espousing positive engagement of jail personnel in the implementation of welfare and development programs among its resident Persons Deprived of Liberty towards the realization of BJMP’s mission, vision and objectives made possible through the strong support of equally dedicated and multi-awarded Mayor Belmonte.

Meanwhile, the QCJMD remains to be a ‘drug-free jail’ following the recently concluded intensified joint greyhound operation that yielded negative results in illegal drugs that are common in other detention facilities outside it.

The operation was carried-out by the combined forces of Ng-Bonto’s team and 11 members from the nearby Police Station 10 led by its chief, LtCol Robert Amoranto, members from EOD-K9 Group and  two narcotic detection dogs from the QC Police District.

Seized were only 12 improvised bladed weapons, four improvised icepicks and other nuisance contrabands.

Aside from the joint greyhound with other law enforcement agencies, daily greyhound operations are also being conducted by  Ng-Bonto’s team in order to flush out contrabands in jails.

The low-key QCJMD warden said her daily ‘cleansing routine’ at the detention facilities is just part of BJMP’s ‘Oplan Linis Piitan’ and in support of the “Buhay Ingatan, Droga’y Ayawan” Program of the Department of the Interior and Local Government.

BIDA program calls for the support of local government units, partner government agencies, local stakeholders, and organizations in order to effectively advocate drug demand reduction to all sectors of the community.
