The Commission on Elections (Comelec) si Roberto “Pinpin” Uy, Jr. bilang Zamboanga del Norte-1st District Representative matapos ang legal battle nito laban kay Romeo Jalosjos, Jr.
Ang proklamasyon ay kasunod ng isang taon niyang pakikibaka na nagtapos sa ruling ng Supreme Court (SC) pabor sa kanya.
Ani Uy, pinagtibay lamang ng korte ang naunang desisyon ng Comelec na suspendihin ang proklamasyon.
“I am honored by this proclamation and the trust that the people of the 1st District of Zamboanga del Norte have placed in me. I am committed to working tirelessly to bring back the old glory of our beloved province. I will stand by the Uy legacy of good governance, and result-oriented and people-centered style of leadership,” sinabi pa ni Uy.
“Together, we will address the challenges our community faces and work towards a brighter future for all.”
Si Uy ang nakakuha ng pinakamataas na boto sa May 2022 elections sa 69,591 boto, na tumalo kay Romeo Jalosjos Jr., na nakakuha lamang ng 69,109 votes.
Nakatanggap naman ang iba pang kandidato na sina Frederico Jalosjos (F. Jalosjos) at Richard Amazon ng 5,424 at 288 votes.
Nag-ugat ang legal battle sa hakbang ng Provincial Board of Canvassers’ (PBOC) na ideklara si Romeo Jalosjos bilang nanalong kandidato makaraang ang mga natanggap na boto ni F. Jalosjos, na idineklarang nuisance candidate ay inilagay sa kanya.
Dahil dito ay lumobo sa 75,000 ang botong nakuha ni Romeo Jalosjos.
Sa kabila nito, nanindigan ang SC na si F. Jalosjos ay hindi nuisance candidate.
“The SC ruling validated [my] electoral win,” sinabi ni Uy.
“This underscores the fairness and legitimacy of [my] victory, contrary to false allegations intended to deny [me my] rightful seat in the House of Representatives.” RNT/JGC
