Senate version ng Maharlika fund bill, pinakakasa sa Kamara

MANBILA, Philippines- Gustong ipa-adopt ni Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri sa Kongreso ang sariling bersiyon ng Senado sa kontrobersiyal na Maharlika Investment Fund (MIF) bill, na may probisyon laban sa corruption.

“Hopefully the [H]ouse can adopt our version which we improved with more safeguards in place to avoid possible misuse,” ayon kay Zubiri sa text message nitong Huwebes.

Inihayag ito ni Zubiri matapos ilantad na kanilang ipapasa ang MIF bill sa susunod na linggo matapos magpalabas ng certification as urgent ang Palasyo.

“[T]he plan is to approve it by [second and third] reading next week. We are accommodating the last few members who want to interpellate on Monday then we can open the period of amendments immediately after. As a certified measure we can close and approve the bill on that same week,” aniya.

Kapag inampon ng Kamara ang bersiyon ng Senado sa MIF bill, hindi na kailangan pa ang bicameral conference committee hearing na walang ibang layunin kundi pagsamahan ang nagtutunggaling probisyon.

Matapos ito, ayon kay Zubiri, direktang ipapadala sa Palasyo ang adopted version upang lagdaan.

Samantala, inihayag naman ni Senate Minority Leader Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III, na pangunahing tumututol na maisabatas ang panukala na nakatakda magbigay ng contra speech ang minoyr bago simula ang period of amendments.

Aniya, tututulan ng minority bloc ang MIF bill. Kasalukuyang nasa period of interpellation sa Senado ang panukala at pagkatapos, sisimula ang period of amendments bago ito pagtibayin sa ikalawa at ikatlong pagbasa.

Samantala, sinabi naman ni Senador Francis “Chiz” Escudero na marami pang amendments ang ilalagay ng Department of Finance at Bureau of Treasury sa panahon ng period of committee amendments.

“There’s a possibility for the MIF bill to be passed by Congress before its sine die adjournment on June 2 if the House adopts the Senate version of the measure,” ani Escudero. Ernie Reyes
