MANILA, Philippines- Inihayag ng Department of Justice nitong Huwebes na iimbestigahan nito ang alegasyon na tinorture umano ng law enforcers ang isang suspek sa pagpatay kay Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo kapag nakahanap ito ng basehan.
Apat na suspek sa March 4 killing kay Degamo at siyam pa ang bumawi ng nauna nilang testimonya na sangkot sila sa krimen.
Isa sa kanila, si Osmundo Rivero, ang nagsabing tinorture siya upang iugnay si suspended lawmaker Arnolfo Teves Jr. sa krimen habang nasa ilalim ng kustodiya ng kapulisan, at sinabing pinagbantaan siya ng mga pulis na sasaktan ang kanyang pamilya kapag hindi siya nakipagtulungan.
“If it’s true what he alleges there that he had been tortured or intimidated and if that has to be investigated, then we will conduct the investigation,” pahayag ni Senior Deputy State Prosecutor Richard Anthony Fadullon sa isang panayam.
“If ever it is proven that there is some truth or there’s any basis for the charges, then those who are responsible or those who will be identified to be responsible, should be made to face charges as well,” dagdag niya.
Subalit, nagbabala ang DOJ sa mga suspek.
“If on the other hand, it would appear there is no basis for these charges or these allegations, then Rivero should be made to account for it himself,” giit ni Fadullon.
“He should not be allowed to toy with the criminal justice system or toy with this justice system by coming up with changes in his statements without necessarily being able to explain or justify the same. That would hold true for the others,” patuloy niya.
Nauna nang sinabi ni Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla na inaasahan na niya ang pagbawi ng mga salaysay dahil sa umano’y pag- “lawyer up” sa ilang mga suspek upang hindi makipagtulungan.
Nitong May 17, halos dalawang buwan matapos ang pagpaty, naghain ang mga awtoridad ng murder complaints laban kay Teves.
Nahaharap din sa murder charges ang 11 suspek.
Nanindigan naman si Teves na wala siyang kinalaman maging ang kanyang pamilya sa pagpaslang. Hindi pa rin siya umuuwi sa bansa. RNT/SA
