Muling ipinananawagan ng ilang senador ang total ban sa ban Philippine Overseas Gaming Operators (POGOs) saka lumikha ng mas mabigat na regulasyon matapos ang paglusob sa Pasay City na nagresulta ng pagsagip ng mahigit 700 indibiduwal na biktima ng human trafficking.
Sa pahayag, matinding ipinagtataka ni Senate Majority Leader Joel Villanueva kung paano nakakagalaw ang POGOs kahit kanselado ang kanilang lisensiya.
“The reality is that there is a high probability that this is not an isolated case. This is exactly the reason why we are pushing for the total ban of POGOs in the country,” giit niya
“With the proliferation of these illegal POGO operations, it is quite obvious that Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor) needs to ramp up and do a better job of shutting down POGO operations in the country,” paliwanag pa niya.
Binanggit din ng senador ang social cost na kaugnay sa pagsusugal partikular sa POGO na walang nakukuhang benepisyo sa ekonomiya.
Samantala, sinabi naman ni Senate Minority Leader Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III na dapat may kumilos ang PAGCOR at palaging maging mapagmatyag at mabilis na ipatupad ng tungkulin nito.
“Sana ang message ng government to the Filipino people and the rest of the world ay ‘hindi tayo mukhang pera,” dagdag niya.
Sinabi pa ni Pimentel na dapat ibasura ng pamahalaan ang mga aktibidad na nagbibigay problema sa batas at kaayusan, umaakit ng kriminal sa ating bansa at nasisira ang ating reputasyon kahit nagbibigay ng buwis ito sa gobyerno.
“We should not even be concerned about how much the questionable activities bring in. We should look at the over-all multi-dimensional damages and harm that these questionable activities do to our society, country, and people. Both the short-term and long-term harms,” aniya.
Samantala, muling umapela si Senador Sherwin Gatchalian sa administrasyon na tuluyan nang palayasin at ipagbawal ang POGO sa bansa sa gitna ng nakakagulat na rebelasyon na naging prostitution hub ang naturang organisasyon.
“This is probably the worst that POGOs have ever been. It’s profoundly disturbing. What we’re witnessing here is essentially a self-contained hub for sexual exploitation and slavery,” giit ni Gatchalian.
“This incident provides stark confirmation of the concerns we’ve voiced for quite some time now – that criminal activities associated with POGOs will continue to intensify unless we shut down the entire industry,” dagdag niya.
Ayon kay Gatchalian, lumilitaw na nag-isyu ng PAGCOR ng Internet gaming license to Smart Web Technology Corporation, na matatagpuan sa anim na palapag na gusali sa Williams Street sa Pasay City, nang hindi nagsasagawa ng masusing inspection.
Pinayagan din ng awtoridad ng Philippine National Police (PNP) ang pagpapatuloy ng operasyon nito kahit binawi ng PagCOR ang lisensiya sa ibang pangalan nitong Setyembre, ayon kay Gatchalian.
“This demonstrates that Pagcor has been ineffective in regulating online gaming and gambling operations in the country,” giit niya.
Naunang binawi ng PAGCOR ang lath ng POGO licenses nitong Setyembre upang mapaganda ang regulasyon ng ahensiya. Kapalit ng POGO, ipinalabas ang IGLs. Nakatakdang ipalabas sa pagtatapos ng buwan ahng IGL licenses.
Matagal nang isinusulong ni Gatchalian ang pagpapatalsik ng POGO operator sa bansa sanhi ng tumataas na kriminalidad na kinasasangkutan ng industriya tulad ng
human trafficking, forcible abduction, homicide, illegal detention, kidnapping-for-ransom, theft, robbery-extortion, serious physical injuries, swindling, grave coercion, investment scam, cryptocurrency scam, love scam, at pinakahuli ang prostitution. Ernie Reyes
