MANILA, Philippines – Sinabi ng Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) nitong Sabado, Oktubre 28 na buo ang suporta ng Pilipinas sa United Nations sa pagtugon nito sa humanitarian crisis sa pagitan ng Israel at Hamas militants.
“We continue to support efforts of the UN, particularly the UN Security Council, the UN humanitarian system and the global community, to decisively address this crisis and put a stop to the alarming deaths and suffering in Gaza and Israel,” saad sa pahayag.
Matatandaan na nag-abstain ang bansa mula sa non-binding UN resolution na nananawagan para sa
“immediate humanitarian truce” sa Gaza.
Hinimok ng dokumento na magbigay ng agarang probisyon sa pagkain, tubig, medical supplies, gasolina, kuryente at unhindered access para sa UN at iba pang humanitarian agencies na nais tumulong sa mga Palestinian.
Samantala, sinabi ng DFA na kabilang ito sa mga nananawagan sa international community ng “swift action to address the scale of human suffering that is affecting populations” sa Israel at Palestine.
Maliban dito, sinabi rin ng ahensya na naninindigan ang Gulf leaders at ASEAN member-states, kabilang ang Pilipinas, sa pagkondena sa karahasan sa Gaza strip.
Kinondena ng ASEAN at Gulf nations ang karahasan sa Gaza sa pamamagitan ng “resolution, ES-10/L.25 adopted by the UN General Assembly on 27 October has many elements which the Philippines supports.”
Hindi naman binanggit sa draft resolution ang pag-atake ng Hamas sa southern Israel noong Oktubre 7 na ikinasawi ng ilang Filipino.
“We supported the efforts of Canada to include a factual mention in the resolution of the attacks on 07 October… Canada’s proposal, which sought to achieve more balance in the draft, with a condemnation of the 7 October terrorist attacks by Hamas that killed many innocent civilians including Filipinos working and living in Israel,” ayon sa DFA.
“This was supported by 88 states, but fell short of 8 more votes that would have seen this critical element reflected in an important UN resolution,” dagdag pa. RNT/JGC
