MANILA, Philippines- Iniulat ng Philippine National Police (PNP) nitong Martes na “generally peaceful” at maayos ang paghahain ng certificates of candidacy (COC).
“Sa pangkalahatan po ay naging mapayapa at maayos naman po yung unang araw ng pagfi-file po ng certificate of candidacy,” ani PNP spokesperson Police Colonel Jean Fajardo sa televised public briefing.
Subalit, inihayag ni Fajardo na may na-monitor silang isang election-related incident sa Libon, Albay.
“Bagamat sa atin pong record ay may isa lamang po tayong naitala na suspected election-related incident dyan po sa Libon, Albay,” dagdag niya.
Base kay Fajardo, naganap ang insidente sa harap ng tahanan ng barangay captain.
Bineberipika pa ang ibang ulat ng umano’y election-related incidents kung konektado ang mga ito sa barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE) ngayong taon, patuloy ni Fajardo.
Sa pagsisimula ng paghahain ng COC, inumpisahan din ng PNP nitong Lunes ang implementasyon ng three-month election gun ban para sa seguridad ng BSKE 2023.
“Checkpoints have been installed in different areas of the country, with members of the PNP together with the AFP to monitor and inspect, and to strictly implement the gun ban,” sabi ni PNP chief Police General Benjamin Acorda Jr.
Sa ilalim ng Resolution 10918, ipinagbabawal ng Commission on Elections (Comelec) ang “bearing, carrying, or transporting firearms and other deadly weapons outside residence or place of business, and in all public places; employing, availing, or engaging the services of security personnel and bodyguards; and transporting or delivering firearms and explosives, including its parts, ammunition, and/ or components.”
Exempted naman sa gun ban ang mga tauhan ng PNP, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) at iba pang miyembro ng law enforcement agencies.
