MANILA, Philippines – Nananawagan ang Department of Broadcast Communication ng Unibersidad ng Pilipinas na magbitiw sa pwesto si Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) chairperson Lala Sotto matapos suspendihin ng ahensya ang “It’s Showtime.”
Ayon sa MTRCB, maraming reklamo ang naitala laban sa episode noong July 25 ng palabas matapos umanong kumilos ang hosts na sina Vice Ganda at Ion Perez sa isang malaswang paraan.
Sa isang pahayag, sinabi ng UP broadcast communication department na ang desisyon ng MTRCB na parusahan ang noontime show na 12-araw na suspensyon ay nagpapakita ng “lack of wisdom and discernment.”
“The measure is regressive, and only illustrates the broad’s proclivity for censorship and high handedness,” saad sa pahayag. “It had regarded itself as an arbiter of media morality instead of a true advocate for ‘matalino at responsableng panonood.'”
“We also call for the resignation of MTRCB Chair Diorella Maria “Lala” Sotto, whose pronouncements on national TV evidently compromised her position and objectivity as a public official.”
Sinabi rin ng mga miyembro ng departamento na sila ay “nabigla sa patuloy na kabiguan” ng MTRCB na maging “tugon sa panahon” at tinawag ang mga interbensyon nito sa mga programa sa TV na “hindi kailangan.”
“Its utter disregard for the show’s labor force which will be taking the brunt of the suspension contradicts any attempt at promoting sensitivity,” dagdag pa.
“We append our collective voices to past and current calls for its abolition, or if at all, transformation into an information and media literacy agency that advances critical, intelligent, liberating, and sensible media production and audienceship, much needed in this milieu of orchestrated ignorance and disinformation.” RNT
