MANILA, Philippines- Inihayag ni Vice President Sara Duterte nitong Miyerkules ang pag-asa na malapit nang makalaya ang Pilipinas sa insurhensya, kagaya ng nangyari sa Davao region.
Sa pagdiriwang ng unang anibersaryo ng insurgency-free Davao City, sinabi ni Duterte, na kamakailan ay itinalaga bilang co-vice chairperson ng National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC), na patapos na ang giyera sa New People’s Army (NPA) at malapit nang mabuwag ang kilusang ito.
“The NPA’s so-called protracted war is ending. The guerrilla warfare tactic is no longer working for them to be able to breathe life into a dying movement. The stench of its doom and imminent demise is repulsive, but something that we anticipate with most profound excitement,” aniya.
“I hope that one day soon, we wake up to the news that the entire Philippines is already NPA terrorist-free. Let us make this happen,” dagdag ni Duterte.
Binigyang-diin na “terrorism is a dangerous enemy,” inalala ng Vice President ang panahon kung kailan nasa ilalim ng impluwensya ng NPA ang distrito ng Paquibato sa Davao City– kung saan maraming mga bata na hindi nakakapag-aral ang hindi rin nakakukuha ng sapat na nutrisyon, at may kakulangan ang government services at basic infrastructure.
Binanggit naman niya ang civilian-led program Peace 911 ng local government ng Davao, na nagbigay ng oportunidad sa mga residente na maging produktibo, magkaroon ng hanapbuhay, matuto ng bagong kaalaman, at sanayin ang mga kababaihan.
Subalit, inamin ni Duterte na “fragile” ang kapayapaan sa rehiyon at dapat na panatilihin.
“The peace that we have is fragile, and I realized that sustaining the peace is more difficult than attaining or gaining peace,” aniya.
“This is a success that must be sustained. And this can only be done if we do not abandon our strength as a community or our shared dreams as a nation.”
Iginiit pa ni Duterte, na kasalukuyang Education secretary, na ang edukasyon ay “powerful tool” para sa peacebuilding at paglaban sa terorismo, at makapag-aahon sa mga tao sa kahirapan at kawalang-hustisya. RNT/SA
